Mbsr mindfulness-based Stress Reduction training in English

MBRS Mindfulness training: a program for stress reduction based on mindfulness practice and conducted in English language in Florence, for helping english speaking people (tourists, foreign students or worker) to find a way to face stress and reduce it practicing mindfulness.

What is Mindfulness?

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”(jon Kabat-Zinn 2005)

Mindfulness is an innate quality that can be awakened and cultivated, helping us to get back in touch with our deepest needs and to make healthier, more balanced choices, thus facing various moments of difficulty and stress that life presents to us.

With the term Mindfulness, therefore, both the practice that aims to develop the quality of mindfulness, awareness and awareness itself, the fruit of regular practice, are indicated at the same time.

By training ourselves to be more and more aware, in more and more moments of our life, we regain the possibility to choose, instead of reacting automatically, and to be acted by automatisms that are activated when we are under stress, and we resume our life and our senses, awakening to the fullness of experience, as it is.

How to learn Mindfulness: the MBSR mindfulness training program

The MBSR mindfulness training program, is an educational program, in which one learns from one’s own experience, born in 1979 with Jon Kabat-Zinn, a molecular biologist who, believing deeply in the benefits that this practice has managed to bring to it  inside hospitals, alongside traditional medicine.  In this way he founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the Medical School of the University of Massachusetts: a clinic for stress reduction, first for the management of chronic pain, then to reduce all forms of stress.Since then, more than 22 thousand people have practiced it and scientific research is increasingly full of evidence to support efficacy in many fields of physical and psychological well-being.

Benefits of Mindfulness

Since the early years when the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program was launched, more and more studies have been carried out to prove its effects and effectiveness. This demonstrates the enormous impact and importance that such practices have on improving many aspects both biological and psychological.

The benefits of Mindfulness

The results of the studies on the effects of the practice of Mindfulness, report that this increases the parasympathetic tone (the system that induces calm and relaxation) by decreasing the activation of the sympathetic system (linked to adrenaline and noradrenaline), as well as a reduction of cortisol secretion  (“stress” hormone), an increase in serotonin and night-time melatonin levels.
Overall, there is therefore an improvement in physical health and the immune system, along with a decrease in respiratory and cardiac frequency, and blood pressure.

mindfulness positive effects

With regard to psychological well-being, studies report a lowering of anxiety levels after having participated in the 8 weeks of an MBSR mindfulness training program, an increased perception of well-being, an improvement in cognitive functions, a decrease in the level of depression, and a reduction in the cortical thinning in aging.  There was also evidence of improvement in the field of eating disorders, addictions, as well as in a number of other areas ranging from learning, concentration skills, improvement of musical performance, sports performance, to marital satisfaction, in the relationships in general, thanks to the increase in empathy, and last but not least to emotional self- regulation skills.

What is the goal of MBSR mindfulness training?

The goal of mindfulness practice and of the MBSR program is to find a way of wellbeing through the learning of stress management, cultivating a deep intimacy with the nowscape, which includes and is grounded in the body, in the breath and all our experience of the present moment.
